Who We Are
Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana Chapter 3 was formed when one mother was looking to fill the void left when her oldest son was called to Iraq. She found solace with other Blue Star Mothers at the original Louisiana BSM meetings in Baton Rouge, LA. Since she was from St Francisville, she knew that many other mothers like her could not make the long drive and sought to start a local chapter in the Feliciana parishes. In October, 2007, the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana - Chapter 3 was born.

Our History
On January 22, 1942, the Flint News Advertiser printed a coupon asking mothers of servicemen to return the coupon after filling it out. The following February 1st, 300 mothers met in the Durant Hotel in Flint Michigan. Captain George H. Maines, who had conceived the idea for this group, acted as the chair of the first meeting. It was decided that after receiving over a thousand responses from the ad that a permanent organization should be formed.
On February 6th, the organization was reported on Congressional record. Chapters were then formed in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, California, Iowa and Washington. In June, 1960 the organization was chartered by Congress. |
Our Mission
Our mission is simply to carry on the great tradition of Blue Star Mothers of America, to be there and support the mothers of our great heroes at all times and occasions. We will promote the great sacrifices of our sons and daughters through various means and outlets. Periodically, we host patriotic rallies and memorials, raise funds to affect the lives of our servicemen and women, and be a shoulder to lean on when a dear mother's star turns from a beautiful blue to an emotional gold. We will live up to our chapter motto: "Giving back to those willing to give all." |
